ENI ANNOUNCES DISCOVERY OF GIANT NATURAL GAS-FIELD IN MOZAMBIQUE
ITALY
Rome - The discovery of a "giant" natural gas field in the in the Mamba South exploration prospect of South 1, Area 4 off the coast of Mozambique is turning out to be ENI's largest discovery. The well, which encountered a column of high quality natural gas at 212 meters in sand from the Oligocene era, is yet another milestone in ENI's discoveries, thanks to the potential ascertained with the first well. The Mamba South 1 well is the first exploration well in Area 4, drilled at a depth of 1585 metres in the waters about 40 kilometers off the coasts of Cabo Delgado, in northern Mozambique. "This discovery would allow us to supply all of Italy's consumption requirements for 6 or 7 years," said ENI's CEO Paolo Scaroni during a conference call about this recent discovery.
