ENI ANNOUNCES MOZAMBIQUE GAS READY BY 2018
QATAR

Doha - In Mozambique "the first gas could be ready no later than 2018" announced ENI's Chief Executive Officer Paolo Scaroni at a press conference held at the 20th World Petroleum Congress in Doha, in Qatar. "We expect to complete the exploration stage next year," he explained. Initial data will, however, be ready soon, "We are drilling a well that will provide results over the next two weeks and then we will drill other wells." As far as this discovery is concerned, Scaroni said, "We believe we have found one of the largest fields we have ever discovered in history as far as gas is concerned. With just one well we have have found over 20 trillion cubic feet of gas." In Mozambique there are three different possibilities for transport, "LNG, pipelines or compressed natural gas, required to transport gas over not too excessive distances," explained ENI's CEO, "and this applies to Mozambique since the field is near the border with Tanzania, while most people reside in the south." For the moment, he added, "we are addressing all possibilities, among them compressed natural gas, because Mozambique, like many other African countries, lacks electricity and therefore we believe there will be demand for this kind of energy."
