Algiers - Energy company E.ON Ruhrgas reports the discovery of oil and gas reservoirs at the Rhourde Yacoub exploration bloc, located in the eastern Algerian Sahara's onshore Berkine basin. The field is operated by E.On Ruhrgas - which holds a 49pc stake in Sonatrach (with the Algerian government holding remaining majority stakes). According to a Sonatrach statement "the discovery confirms the area's hydrocarbon potential. Our two companies are to press ahead with joint development of the area as soon as [exploration] work is completed and size [of the reserves] is confirmed."
